Stationary fire-protection pump (electric, diesel or steam driven).

Applicable Standards (3)

ISO — 1 standard

ISO 9906 Rotodynamic pumps — Hydraulic performance acceptance tests — Grades 1, 2 and 3
Edition: 2012 Region: Global
Hydraulic performance acceptance testing of pumps.

Hydraulic Institute — 1 standard

Edition: 2025 Region: USA, Global
Fire water pump installation, controllers, drivers, testing.
Key requirements (8)
  • Stationary fire-protection pumps — electric, diesel, steam-driven.
  • Pump types: horizontal split-case, end-suction, vertical-inline, vertical-turbine, multistage.
  • Performance: minimum 100% rated flow at 65% rated head and 150% rated flow at 65% head (rough rule).
  • Listed/labeled pumps (UL, FM) required.
  • Diesel driver: dedicated fuel for ≥ 8 hours; 2 batteries; weekly run test.
  • Jockey pump (pressure maintenance): not for fire flow — sized to maintain system pressure.
  • Suction conditions: positive head preferred; flooded suction with ≥ 150% rated capacity available.
  • Annual full-flow testing required.
