Scope
Steam turbines used as drivers for general-purpose service (typically <1000 hp).
Key requirements (8)
- General-purpose steam turbines (mechanical drive) — alternative to NEMA SM-23.
- Power range: typically up to 1500 kW.
- Mechanical run test: 4 hours at maximum continuous speed.
- Hydrotest: 1.5× MAWP for casing.
- Maximum allowable speed: 105% MCS for trip.
- Vibration: per API 670 — bearing housing < 7.6 mm/s typical.
- Single-stage or multistage; condensing or back-pressure.
- Lighter governor / lube oil requirements vs API 612.
